Wet weather creates double feature programs at the Brewerton, Fulton and Oswego speedways (2024)

The recent rainy spring weather in Central New York created numerous postponements and several local tracks have scheduled makeup feature races this weekend at regular admission prices.

Things get started Friday night when the Brewerton Speedway has slated a pair of DIRT sportsman main events, along with their regular weekly classes.

Going into Friday’s program at this popular Route 11 oval, Baldwinsville’s Jimmy Phelps holds a slim two-point lead over Tim Sears Jr. in the DIRT big-block modified standings. The 600 micro-sprints will also be running.

Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway, a rescheduled 35-lap, DIRT 358 modified feature race will open the show at this Route 57 oval. Their regular weekly program will follow, topped off with a second 358 main event.

Saturday night’s open wheel tripleheader at the Oswego Speedway will open with a 25-lap, 350 supermodified feature that was recently rained out.

Following a 50-lap main event for big-block supers and a 30-lapper for small-block supermods, the 350′s return with their second feature race of the night.

It’s also Autograph Night at this lakeside oval and Dave Shullick Jr. has a seventeen-point lead over Tyler Thompsom in the latest supermodified point standings. Kyle Perry and Josh Sokolic are currently tied for the 350 point lead, while Alex Hoag is the SBS leader. Race time is 6:30 p.m.

Friday night: The Utica-Rome Speedway has a $4,000 to win, Thunder on the Thruway modified special this week and Matt Sheppard will be looking for his fifth U-R win of 2024.

The Mohawk Valley Vintage Modifieds are also on the program at this Vernon oval.

It’s Armed Forces Tribute Night at Can-Am Friday and point leader Tim Fuller will be looking for another DIRT 358 triumph.

Albany-Saratoga has a $1000 to win pro stock special this week and the Outlaw Speedway has the CRSA Sprint Tour Friday.

ESS in Ontario: The Empire Super Sprint Tour makes a weekend swing through Ontario this week. Saturday the 360 sprint group has a date at the Brockville Speedway and winds up with a Sunday night show at the Cornwall Speedway.

Sportsman special at L of L: The Super DIRTcar Sportsman Series has a $1,000-to-win feature race at the Land of Legends Speedway in Canandaigua Saturday night. DIRT big-block modifieds are also on the card.

NASCAR in NH.: The NASCAR Cup 301 stock car special rolls away ar 2:30 p.m. Sunday on the one-mile paved oval in Louden, New Hampshire. TV coverage will be on USA.

The Whelen Modified Tour usually produces the best racing of the weekend at Louden and their 100-mile event gets flagged away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night. The event will be streamed live on Flo Racing.

While it will be tough to bet against Whelen point leader Ronnie Silk, Cup star Ryan Preece has a ride for this mod race. Local open wheel favorite Bobby Santos 111 has won six New Hampshire mod specials and he has a new ride in the Advantage Motorsports team out of Buffalo.

Race of Champions regular, Andy Jankowiak, also out of the Buffalo area, has secured a ride for Saturday’s Whelen finale. The race carries a hefty $142,000 payoff, with $18,000 set for the victor.

Too hot: Fulton Speedway had the rescheduled Highbank Holdup 60 for DIRT 358 modifieds set for Wednesday night, but track officials postponed the event due to the oppressive heat. The $4,500-to-win special will be rescheduled for a second time later this season.

Bouc wins New Egypt: Brett Deyo’s Short Track Super Series Modified Tour had a fifty-lap special Tuesday night at the New Egypt (New Jersey) Speedway.

After Stewart Friesen led the first 22 laps of the feature, Danny Bouc rolled into the top spot and easily cruised to the $6,000 victory. It was the second career STSS triumph for this Pipersville, Pennsylvania driver.

Tanner Von Doren followed Friesen home in third, with Anthony Perrego and Justin Grosso completing the top five finishers. Matt Sheppard fell out of the event with two laps remaining while running fifth.
